In the early days of modern rock the authorities would not allow rock music onto the radio stations playlists.  
The only way you got to hear the music was thru Pirate radio Stations based on boats anchored outside the three mile limit or on a juke box in a milk bar or in the growing record stores across the nation. Thirty three and one third rotations per minute is the speed LP records are played and black vinyl the wonder plastic they are made from.
